Our facilities
Every corner of our center was designed not with abundant means, but with love and deep dedication. We may not have the most modern buildings, but we work every day to provide a safe, warm, and nurturing environment for the children.
Thanks to our modest but essential facilities, we ensure their physical and emotional well-being. These spaces also support our income-generating activities, allowing us to provide balanced meals and meet the center’s vital needs.
A safe environment to learn, play, and grow in peace.
Functional spaces for everyday life, accessible to all.
Facilities that serve both the center and the local community.
A Human and Supportive Approach
Our goal is not only to educate, but to support each child throughout their life journey. We welcome every child with respect, regardless of their background or story, and we do everything possible to make them feel loved and supported.
A Dedicated Team
Our educators and volunteers are not just professionals – they are committed individuals, ready to give their time and energy. Their daily presence and kindness are a precious source of support for the children.
Constant Attention
The safety of the children is our top priority. Even with limited resources, we ensure continuous supervision and a well-adapted organization to care for their well-being at every moment of the day.
Orphanage
The orphanage houses around 70 children each night in three separate dormitories: one for girls, one for boys, and one for infants. The bunk beds and foam mattresses, though sometimes worn out, remain functional. Due to a lack of diapers, the youngest children often soil their sheets, but each bed is still a small space of safety for them.
The blankets are old but clean, and despite the modest conditions, the atmosphere remains warm thanks to the constant presence of caring adults.
The center also has a dining hall, solely dedicated to meals. Children eat there three times a day—typically rice with vegetables or legumes, depending on available resources.
Next to it, a small basic kitchen allows for meal preparation over a charcoal stove. Often, the meals are prepared with the help of women welcomed by the center, who contribute to the community life.
Infirmary
The infirmary at the Felana Maitso center is modest but plays a vital role in caring for the children. Equipped with a few basic medications, an old examination table, and a few worn-out chairs, it serves daily to provide first aid, soothe a fever, treat a wound, or simply comfort a sick child.
We don’t have sophisticated equipment, and most medicines come from donations. Sometimes, treatments are lacking, and in such cases, we must rely on creativity and the generosity of our partners and volunteers.
The space is small but functional. Every child is followed as best as possible—weight checks, basic care, and compassionate listening. For many, this infirmary is their only regular access to medical attention.
Parking
The center has a small courtyard parking area, shared between service vehicles, visitors, and above all, residents from the neighborhood. Though it is neither paved nor perfectly laid out, this space plays an essential role in the center’s daily operations.
This is an ingenious solution created to generate regular income by occasionally renting out available parking spots. These modest contributions are reinvested in urgent needs: buying rice, school supplies, medicines, or maintaining the facilities.
This initiative, despite limited means, reflects our commitment to finding sustainable ways to support the children at the center. It also represents a beautiful example of local solidarity, where every small gesture contributes to keeping the center running.
Multipurpose Hall for Rent
Before his passing, Richard Rakotomalala, co-founder of the center, built a large multipurpose hall within Felana Maitso. Today, this space is regularly rented out for family or community events such as weddings, birthdays, meetings, or religious services.
Though modest in its structure, the hall remains functional and highly sought after in the neighborhood, where few affordable venues are available. The income generated through rentals provides valuable support to the center: it helps fund the children’s daily meals, fuel for transportation, and other essential needs.
This hall is more than just a space—it symbolizes the spirit of solidarity and self-reliance that has guided Felana Maitso since its creation. Thanks to it, the center can cover part of its operating costs without relying solely on external donations.

What We Built with Heart
A Humble Center, Boundless Dreams
Simple Places, Filled with Love
Every wall of the Felana Maitso center was built with faith and dedication.
Our dormitories, kitchens, toilets, and shared rooms are not luxurious, but they offer a true home to those who had none.
A Constant Will to Improve
We dream of improving the infrastructure: providing new mattresses, creating a proper bathroom, better equipping the infirmary, and building a more welcoming educational space.
Every improvement is a step closer to dignity, safety, and personal growth.
A Center Rooted in Solidarity
Here, every space has meaning: the parking lot helps finance meals, the rental hall feeds the children, and women once excluded from society regain an active role through the kitchen and upkeep.
Our infrastructures are not just functional — they reflect our values of sharing, inclusion, and courage.
These spaces prove that with little, we can achieve a lot.
